Power Outages

POWER OUTAGES AT MACHIAS ELEMENTARY

Over the last few years, we have learned a lot about life without power at Machias. Here is the important information that you will need to know:

	Students stay at school when we lose power and we maintain our normal schedules.
	Our phones are electric:
	You cannot contact our office by phone. Your call will be routed to the main switchboard at the District office. If you have an emergency message, the District office will notify our office through our internal emergency phones.
	Lunch will be served as usual. If a power outage affects food preparation, our food service brings sack lunches to the school. These lunches have a sandwich, fruit, milk and a treat.
	In the past, dismissals have not been late.
	Bus routes are affected only if downed trees or power lines create an impassible road.

We will always make every effort to take good care of everyone at Machias. Our community members are great. When we had no power during our Fall Evening Parent Conferences last year, families brought lanterns from home to help out with lighting rooms and the hallway. The kids seem to delight in the excitement of having no power and yet the school is quite calm. Please let me know if you have any concerns.
